Dr Pamela Eddy
Visiting Fellow (Fulbright Scholar)

Higher education leadership professor, Pamela Eddy, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship as a Fellow at the Dublin Institute of Technology in the Centre for Social and Educational Research, Higher Education Policy Research Unit.

Dr. Pamela Eddy, a faculty member from the College of William and Mary in Virginia, is attached to the Centre for Social and Educational Research. Part of her research agenda is to investigate college and university partnerships evolving from funded research in Ireland under the Higher Education Authority’s Programme for Research in Third-Level Institutions (PRTLI). The incentive for the funding is to help support Ireland’s strategic framework for higher education and to provide enhanced quality of education and a focus on graduate education. Dr. Eddy will provide consultation to other researchers interested in exploring concepts of collaborations and partnerships.

Professor Eddy’s main focus will be on data collection regarding partnerships, ultimately resulting in a white paper from the findings of this research. Data collection will also occur regarding the influence of faculty teaching in international contexts, focusing on how this experience impacts issues of teaching and learning. Both US and Irish Fulbright scholar will be included in this research. Social science researchers and graduate students at DIT will be able to draw on Eddy’s expertise.

Additionally, Eddy will work with higher education and social science doctoral students at DIT to help support their research agendas. She will review the dissertation process and framework common in the US and provide examples of ways in which students can participate in professional associations to present their research findings. Eddy will foster connections among students with scholars around the world that are researching in similar arenas. The intention is to build a network among doctoral students and scholars and to foster collaborative research.

Eddy brings a diverse background to her work in CSER. Her research focus is on organizational theory and leadership. Her research interests include community colleges, leadership development, gender roles in higher education, and faculty development. She is a co-author of Creating the future of faculty development: Learning from the past, understanding the present and has numerous research publications and book chapters to her credit. Her new book, Community College Leadership: A Multidimensional Model for Leading Change, will be published in March 2010. Eddy serves on the editorial board for Community College Enterprise and is a reviewer for the Journal of Higher Education, Community College Review, and the Canadian Journal of Higher Education. She received the 2006 emerging scholar award by the Council for the Study of Community Colleges and the 2007 Central Michigan University Provost Award for Research and Creative Endeavors. Eddy is also the recipient of the Central Michigan University 2008 Excellence in Teaching Award. She served to date as chair on 22 dissertations and as a committee member on an additional 10. Three of her dissertation students have received the CMU Dissertation of the Year Award.
